To help organizations take full advantage of their vast stores of data, MIT Professional Education has partnered with the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS) to offer the course Data Science: Data to Insights. This six-week online class is designed for data science professionals looking to hone their data analytics skills, particularly when dealing with large data sets.
The course provides an introduction to fundamental principles for leveraging big data and answers a broad range of questions about machine learning, data analysis, and predictive algorithms. Professionals at all experience levels will walk away with not only knowledge of the latest tools, but also a deeper understanding of how to apply modern techniques to real-world problems.
Participants will grow familiar with these techniques through hands-on case studies of successful businesses that are taking advantage of modern tools and methods, including Amazon, Spotify, and Netflix. All case studies include a programming section that gives professionals an opportunity to do the work of the business project covered in these case studies.
Professionals will also complete projects that require them to use their skills to solve real-world challenges. For example, students of this course will be asked to use various data methods to visualize the gender wage gap, identify genes that cause autism, and even examine data sets from the Challenger Space Shuttle launch to determine if advanced analytics could have prevented the tragedy.
Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this self-paced course consists of pre-recorded videos, enabling you to learn at your own pace and work around your busy schedule. The average time commitment for this course is only three to four hours a week and includes videos, assigned readings, and assignments as well as optional discussion forums. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive 1.3 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a Certificate of Completion from MIT Professional Education.
Organizations that know how to leverage the data science tools, technologies, and methods available to capture and make sense of unstructured data are the ones that will succeed in today’s economy.
